Max Verstappen goes eighth quickest, faster than the struggling Ferraris but 1.3 seconds off his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo, who is still the fastest in session two.
 
Forget the glitz of F1 racing in the center of Baku, this is the reality, I know because I have worked there.

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel headed Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes in final practice at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The German was 0.361 seconds clear of Hamilton, who trails him by nine points in the championship after three races.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen was third ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

The Dutchman leapt to fourth in a last dash after a crash by Williams' Sergey Sirotkin had brought out the red flag and left time for one flying lap.

Penalty for Hulkenberg

Williams say they expect to be able to get Sergey Sirotkin out for qualifying after his crash in final practice.

But there will be a five-place grid penalty for Renault's Nico Hulkenberg for a gearbox change.

  • Pierre Gasly, at full speed, nearly hits team-mate Brendon Hartley, who had a puncture and was going slowly on track but in the middle of the racing line
  • Out in Q1: Vandoorne, Gasly, Ericsson, Hartley, Grosjean
  • Out in Q2: Stroll, Sirotkin, Alonso, Leclerc, Magnussen
  • Kimi Raikkonen fastest at end of Q1 and Q2
  • Daniel Ricciardo scrapes through into Q3 in 10th place
  • Nico Hulkenberg into Q3 but will have a five-place grid penalty
