My rear diff is whining and have been advised on a repair or replacement. Have found a firm who want £580 to repair or do I put a second hand one in ( 2005 ) £180. I have a friend who can do the work. Any advice please.

First thing I would do is change the oil in the diff. and then check that the rear wheel bearings are good. Diff. noise is rare, wheel bearing noise not so much.

Kings Lynn. Have changed the oil but no difference. I will get a second opinion for the wheel bearings because that was my first thought
