Reading the Times today the motability scheme (which made £745m profit last year) is going to get a hiding in the next budget and so it should when you look at some of the vehicles available on motability. It's meant to get you from A to B. When my son told me what his wife got on motability I was amazed. In a roundabout way I paid for that.
You are aware there is a contribution for the non basic get you from A to B vehicles, that has just doubled on the latest rates announced from October onwards, fortunately I got my order in in time ;) . Are you also aware the portion of the mobility award goes to Motability each 4 week cycle to pay for the vehicle. Equivalent to PCP / HP / Car loan payments in many cases.

If you are working and paying tax, then yes to a degree you are paying toward the scheme, as with all tax. Do you begrudge providing independence to disabled people? I have never begrudged paying tax to give genuinely deserving people the improvements to their lives, available.

Todays mantra from the elected is you no longer have paid in all your life for retirement / medical inability to work often through no fault of your own, the current tax payers pay. So thank you all working folk paying their tax  Paid mine over 5 decades.

So getting a subsided BMW or Mercedes is okay when a Toyota or Kia would suffice justifies that. I agree that genuinely deserving people need help to improve their lives. If you are born into poverty, you can't help that. If you decide to stay there that's up to you. The motability scheme in its current form is a joke which has made millions for those administrating it regardless of who benifits

The BMW and MB on Motability are cheaper off Motability scheme, but they are not 'subsidised' as you seem to believe. Is badge snobbery a factor? Neither offerings meet my needs to give me independence and mobility. Toyota and Kia are joint 1st in WhatCar survey in 2025. MB 3rd, BMW not in top 10

Unfortunately all schemes administered by Governments are to give benefit to their mates. I note you reside in SNP land nuff said!!
