Screenwasher gummed up!

I've had my 1998 1.9 Z3 for over four years now and when I got it I had to replace both non-return valves in the screenwash system due to being gummed up. It's now happened again! I'm using what I thought was a quality screenwash but at 5l I've never emptied the bottle, in fact always keep it topped up. On checking, it was full of grey sludge and the valves were both black. (Jets were ok though). It may be down to the excessively hot weather, maybe not, I think I remember reading about this as a common problem on our cars - any solutions? (especially ones that won't eat my paintwork off either!!)

I had this issue when I bought my Z3, drained and removed the reservoir and gave it a very thorough clean. Not had an issue since...

Same with mine, it's what happens when water sits around being stagnant and things start growing in the bottle. Maybe a splash of Milton or something similar would help, thoroughly rinsed, of course.

Mine was old water mix with screen wash. Took out the motor from the side of the tank, flushed everything through with fresh water, cleaner the motor and filter.
Added new fluids.
All good since March.

Well it's been hosed out and both non-return valves replaced and the jets are now right over the roof. Needs some adjustment. Incidentally, how do you remove the 1.9 washer bottle to clean it thoroughly?

Removal….
Drain the tank ….then pull the pump up and out from the tank

Then undo nut from tanks’ side bracket

Then pull the whole tank up and off its lower bracket
