How can I tell if BMW parts are genuine before buying?

Hello everyone.

I recently needed to replace a few components on my 3 Series and I am honestly confused about how to spot authentic BMW parts versus aftermarket or counterfeit ones. I have seen sellers online claiming their parts are OEM, but the prices vary so much that it feels risky.

Are there specific markings, packaging details, or part numbers I should check to confirm authenticity?

Also, is it generally safer to buy directly from a BMW dealership, or are there trusted third party retailers that sell genuine parts at better prices?

Would appreciate advice from anyone with experience sourcing reliable BMW parts.

This should help you. Personally, I never trust sellers selling "OEM" genuine stuff, I would much rather go with a decent well known aftermarket brand or from the dealer if needed.

I don't think there are any way to get genuine parts and cheaper than dealer
 
It is very difficult to know what's genuine. China can churn out copies of anything with logos, part numbers and packaging that looks genuine.

All you can do is buy from reputable suppliers.

Some sellers on ebay are selling genuine parts but they're just buying from the main dealer and reselling on ebay because, in fact, many prices from the main dealer are quite reasonable and, for some reason, many buyers are just too stupid to pick up the phone and call their local dealer themselves.

Now that I've finished restoring my E36 and am starting on the Z3, I can confirm that some sellers on eBay are selling supposedly rare parts for €450, whereas I bought mine from BMW for €130.
 
As said above the only proper place for genuine bmw parts is Bmw.
Anyone else who is selling a genuine original bmw part has bought from main agent and generally trying to sell on with a mark up .
So either buy from the dealership or buy a reputable aftermarket part from a reputable parts supplier like Euro Car Parts , GSF or the likes.
