My dad had to get rid of all his bikes - over a decade or so - as each one became more difficult to ride with his ailing health.
We also bought lots of equipment to keep him warm as he was suffering more and more from circulation problems, and the vibration from some of his big singles/twins was turning his fingers white and setting his neck/shoulder pain off.
First issue was that he couldn't use the kickstart anymore (we built an electric-powered device that spun the rear wheel instead, but that meant he had to complete his trip in one sitting as couldn't stop for a break anywhere).
Then he couldn't get his leg over the seat so we tried some of the 600cc+ scooters which he couldn't get on with as they didn't feel balanced going around corners.
Then he found he couldn't always support the weight of the bike when he had to put a foot down at traffic lights, so he tried a trike - but missed the leaning he got on 2 wheels; and finally he tried a 3-wheeler that had 2 wheels at the front and one at the rear - but by that time he had just lost the desire to go out on bikes.
After about 10 years, he'd finally disposed of all of his bikes: Ariel Square Four, Ariel Arrow, Arial Leader, Triumph Tiger, Triumph Spitfire, Triumph Bonneville, BSA Rocket, BSA Goldstar, BSA Bantam, and a Yamaha Virago that he bought as it was lower and had electric start. There was also a Triton at one stage, a Sunbeam or two and maybe a Royal Enfield, but he had a phase of buying and selling before he started just buying stuff he'd ridden when younger.
