I ordered one of the cheap impact wrenches from Ebay. The seller came back and asked whether I wanted a yellow one or a green one!. Today they have come back again and said they have tested the whole batch and they are all faulty. Would I wait a few days until they can find some more?......
If you need it for a one off job or for infrequent work, then it's best to hire one from one of the big hire shops such as Speedy or Brandons. They usually have the best tools.

I got this one from Amazon for £50. Their returns policy was half the reason I went with them. This one has variable speed trigger and three year guarantee. Can confirm it works great on rusty suspension bolts:thumbsup:

I've had a nice bit of luck on this too, picked up a second hand Makita BTW200 with battery and charger for £50 which will suit me down to the ground.

After changing suspension on my 2.0 with @Mnbrennan I can safely say that no power impact tools are required to remove any rusty bolts just a good breakers bar and a fully charged Martin. True Martin is not as portable and sophisticated as the power tools you recommend and he's got very limited torque settings just two very high settings (they are frigging tight or about 200nm and this is going nowhere mate or about 375nm).
Now in all seriousness thanks Martin for your help and more to the point I think we could have done with an impact wrench, might get one in April for my bday.

@Mario I didn't use any power tools either when I changed my front struts but the nut on top of the strut gave me the biggest problem, but my son has arms like Arnie and got it off in seconds after I struggled for ages ………. mind you, I reckon my efforts must have loosened it a bit =))

I've heard good things about dewalt ... Was quite tempted myself so that I don't need to bring out the hulk...

Disappointed with impact wrench as it failed to even undo my torqued to spec wheel bolts so sent back today. Now the dilemma of either sending the Makita comparable batteries and charger back and go with the Dewalt DCF899HN or keep them and choose either Makita DTW285Z or the Makita DTW1002Z. Love online shopping.

That is the main drawback with distance shopping mate. I ordered a new dash cam which came a week ago. The same as I had bought 8 years ago and it won't work so I want to return it for a refund.

I bought the Makita DTW1002 in the end and what a beast it is. Such a difference in build quality, pay what you get for.Unfastened the wheel bolt on its lowest setting effortlessly so should handle the hub nuts as well. It will save some coarse language, scrapped knuckles and make life easier,

I got a secondhand DeWalt 899 as recommended by @Mnbrennan, what a machine, used to re-change the front struts and worked beautifully. Very pleased.

Or try a set of these, being able to get the camber right may make a difference, certainly did to mine, makes it more positive in turns, and no real loss of comfort considering the lump of rubber they get rid of. They've lasted a few years, too, I'd quite happily recommend them. Oops, seems I just did.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-BMW-E36-FRONT-ADJUSTABLE-CAMBER-PLATES-TOP-MOUNTS-1991-1998/272760675602?epid=3021291647&hash=item3f81cd9d12:rk:5:pf:0&checksum=272760675602314dbb8931e84b6d90ef8914f8c1d75a&enc=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
Is there a similar part for the rear?

There's no directly comparable parts being as the rear isn't on struts. Powerflex do these https://powerflexstore.co.uk/bmw/z3...-arm-bush-adjustable-z3-1994-2002-pfr5-306gh/ which do something similar, when I did mine a few years back I used an Australian make, https://balancemotorsport.co.uk/whi...r-inner-outer-bmw-z3-roadster-1-97-12-02.html which do the same. I think if I was to do it again I might look for a weld-on kit, haven't got a link to them but if you can work google you'll probably find them, not being lazy, but got my dinner on and need to pay that some attention. May have a look around later.

Luckily Iv a air compressor so when I changed my top mounts it was an easy job. There are lots of battery impact guns out there, probably worth the money in the long run.....has anyone had any dealings or recommendations for a battery impact gun?
