A knight is a person granted an honorary title of knighthood by a head of state (including the pope) or representative for service to the monarch, the church or the country, especially in a military capacity.

Sports person living in Monaco and driving for a German team. hmmmmm...

The title isn't what it was. (Not just LH)
 
He's also done and spent a lot on good causes, unlike for example Sir Philip Green! Also, he's the most successful British driver by a country mile so his recognition is well deserved. Sir Jackie Stewart 3 titles etc.
 
I wasn't picking on LH, I could list numerous names I don't think Knighthoods are appropriate for, including the 2 you mention. Sir Ray Davies from The Kinks? Yet someone like Alan Turing is just a mere OBE after all he did at Bletchley Park.
 
In the current climate I think Sir Lewis is a most worthy recipient for all he has achieved on the track and off, however, all this started years ago when people were getting Knighted after a running couple of laps of the track under a "let's Knight everybody and everybody wins at everything" policy.

And no Sir Jason and Dame Laura Kenny. I think LH is fitting for the honour.

But missing out the two most highly decorated Olympians seems a bit sh***. They probably don’t vote for the Conservative Christmas Party though.
