F1 Formula 1 Gossip

Friday, 18 March
Ferrari have spent the most tokens developing their engine over the winter, and Renault the fewest.
Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone would rather Ferrari win the world championship than Mercedes.
McLaren's Fernando Alonso has said he would have regrets about leaving Ferrari if the Italian team goes on to win the title this season.

World champion Lewis Hamilton has dodged questions during the Australian Grand Prix press conference about being investigated by New Zealand police for allegedly taking selfies on a motorbike.
Sir Jackie Stewart has urged Lewis Hamilton to apologise for appearing to use a mobile phone on a motorcycle.

Aston Martin will return to Formula 1 this season following a 56-year absence, after linking up in a partnership with Red Bull.

The prototype halo head-protection device, aimed at shielding drivers from flying debris, is on track to be adopted for the 2017 season, according to race director Charlie Whiting.

Well that qualifying was a joke!! Total mess!! I can't see that still being in place at the end of the season

Well that qualifying was a joke!!

Feedback from people at the track was that they couldn’t tell what was going on, didn’t have clear sight of a screen and those that did had no countdown timer on it so had no clue of where things were and then saw drivers crawl past (if already out). Also saw drivers out of car and realised in some cases they’d given up as time was against them, people left stands 4 mins before chequered flag.

Fernando Alonso having a moment at speed this morning! Walked away after multiple rolls :nailbiting:

If at first you don't succeed...

"Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

That, according to Albert Einstein, is the very definition of insanity.

If he were alive today, and an F1 fan, I suspect there would have been a knowing tut and a roll of the eyes if he had witnessed qualifying yesterday.

Sticking with the much criticised format from Australia had, perhaps unsurprisingly, the same outcome - an anticlimactic finish and prolonged moments of silence on the track.

Still, the race in Australia turned out all right. Here's hoping for the same outcome in Bahrain today...

The ultimate selfie

This is a rare sight. Almost all the F1 drivers enjoying a meal together. Nico Rosberg snapped this picture in a restaurant in Shanghai, and posted it on social media, along with the caption: "#racingUnited or in Bernie's words: #windbagsunited"

Reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne is aware of interest elsewhere in the paddock, but has stated his desire to race with McLaren next year.
Mercedes has no doubts that Lewis Hamilton will bounce back from his troubled start to the campaign after admitting it had let the world champion down so far.

Lewis Hamilton says he is ready to climb a "steep mountain" after the setbacks he has suffered so far this season.

Max Verstappen was satisfied with his first day as a Red Bull driver in Spain, and insisted that there is much more to come.
Verstappen's long-term Formula 1 future is at Red Bull, says team principal Christian Horner.

Sebastian Vettel thinks Red Bull had decided to drop Daniil Kvyat in favour of Verstappen before his clash with the Russian two weeks ago in Sochi.

Absolute cracker today, one of the chaps we know from the Round Table sent everyone a couple of messages.
True story...

"I have received tickets today for the Monaco GP and I am delighted"

Another chap comes back with, "So am I and I will take them off your hands at no charge"

"What?? No you bloody won't"

Other chap, "Well you are not going to be able to use them"

"What?? "And why not?"

Other chap "Because.......you are getting married coming weekend"

"Oh, b*******s, ..err, anyone help me out here?"

Other chap, "As I said, I will have them as I have not been invited to your wedding"

"No, don't mean that, can someone not stand in for me at the Alter?"

Radio Silence...
