Engine undertray

Is it supposed to have one? I asked this question (about my 3.0i) some time ago as there is no undertray but can’t remember the outcome

My Ferrari had an undertray covering the fuel tank (which was behind the seats in front of the engine)
It was a bit battered so l enquired about a new one....£1100

I took it off and had it repaired!

I bought one from bmw for £56. The full undertray. But it didn’t fit

Looked like it never had one

There were two I could of had.

We looked it up on the parts computer and the large one we couldn’t get to fit. And the smaller one didn’t either.

I work at bmw so we tried everything.

I admit it looks crap looking through the bumper grill tho

That would be brill as I’ll go and get another and make it fit this time.

It would appear not all cars had an undertray fitted, just checked OEM for parts using my chassis number and the item is greyed out indicating not fitted (December 1999 1.8)
Best check OEM using your chassis number to see if it had one fitted originally.
It listed under the Spalsh Wall Group. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=CM12-EUR-12-1999-Z3-BMW-Z3_19&diagId=41_1628

in Covering Lower group.

It didn’t show as mine having one fitted when we run a check. But just thought they all should

I’ve got the bmw build sheets etc printed off showing what mine is and what it came with from factory order

The little tray under the radiator is an important bit for cooling air flow - I’ve seen some tests on bimmerforums where temps were measured with and without - it helps get the air into the radiator.
Not really an issue in the uk though.

But looks looks better fitted for sure.

The 2.2 sport I had definitely had one fitted.

Did you mean this (No 1). Not fitted on mine.

I tried both. Had number one first. The big one. Didn’t fit. Seemed to be out of shape underneath we’re the holes lined up etc

Mine has the front one below the rad but not the larger one under the engine, was like that from new according to OEM
