Battery recommendation

My '04 3.0 failed to start even after charging the battery. Have lights etc. but it just won't turn over. I replaced the battery about 3 years ago.
I'm open to your suggestions regarding Lead, AGM and Lithium Ion. All replies thankfully welcome.

A regular lead-acid battery should be ok for your vehicle. I’ve just replaced a 6 year old, dealer supplied, lead-acid with a Bosch S4 008. I’m hoping to get 5 years out of it as this is the average life of batteries for my use case. Your use case may well be harder on the battery so you may need to get used to changing yours more regularly.

I replaced my Z3 M Coupe battery back in 2019 with a Bosch S4-007 which I purchased from little local motor factor for £76 (at the time way cheaper than Halfords and Euro Car Parts - over £100+). When I looked up the previous owner's service records they had fitted a new Bosch S4-007 in 2009 at a cost of £82!!! So 10 years isn't bad.
Also of note the Bosch leaflets for both batteries where identical. Mine is still going strong after 6 years although I do put it on a CTEK battery charger if not using the car for a few weeks.

After discussion with my mechanic, we've concluded that the starter may be the culprit. Gotta wait for a week for him to have time to look at it.

I’d test the battery under load first. Having working lights doesn’t necessarily mean the battery has enough cranking power. Check the terminals, battery cables, grounds, and starter connections for corrosion or looseness as well. If the battery voltage drops heavily when you turn the key, the battery is likely the problem. After three years, replacement wouldn’t be unusual. AGM would be a good choice for reliability and maintenance-free operation. Lithium is lighter and can have a longer cycle life, but it’s more expensive and needs a compatible charging system.
