1999 BMW Z3M Roadster auction

Unless it’s cheap it’s looks like one to avoid, only done a few hundred miles in 10 years and only had work done to get a current MOT to sell it ?

I can’t see anything that would worry me with that car. Most of these are garage queens so I wouldn’t expect them to have much annual use. One problem is that even ropey ones photograph really well so if I were in the market I’d want to take a look IRL. The ‘artful’ shots are also a bit annoying TBH.
Seems like there’s a lot of interest but they’re keeping their powder dry for now. Interesting to see what it does.

£9,250 but didn’t meet reserve
Not surprising really, as it has a lot of miles, not good SH and an oil leak. S engines need to be looked after more than most.
If I were in the market for one I would have avoided it. But I'm not so don't care!

It's not just the car that's shiny on top

The last Inspection 2 was at 29,000.

The car will be easy to rescue. It's got lots that needs addressing, and most people wouldn't bother with. Lots of simple things, like sorting the seatbelt guide, the aerial, the handbrake gaiter and the driver's foot rug are easy, and should have been done. I suspect the radio doesn't work, or it would have been shown working. The other stuff is the stuff you don't see - the stuff that makes these cars different.

These need an Inspection 2 every fourth service (36,000miles ish) if you are going to get the best out of them. Diff oil should have been changed at least once, probably twice, but no evidence of a change.

This owner has bought a car they can't afford to run, but then when they do spend money on it, they spend far too much. He even spent £12 having fuel the last time it was in the garage. I'm looking for a viscous coupling, but I'll be spending £40-£50, not £200.

Comments about ride height after new springs and dampers fitted, but this could be due to several things. I'd double-check the spring part numbers with BMW. You can't check spring part numbers on RealOEM.

I think he should take £10k, think himself "well shot".

I mostly agree with you but don’t think that they couldn’t afford to run it - just didn’t care that much. I’m sure they didn’t, for example, spend days thinking about spring rates and bush material, oil grades and shelf lives. They’d never fit in around these parts.
I’d agree that for £11,434 you’d get a nice project car that you could still drive and gradually make into a better one. Or spend a couple more £k’s and get one that had more careful owner(s).
But in my case….
******** OPINION ALERT ********
I’ll keep my m44 which offers me 95% of the pleasure and 10% of the frustrations of owning an M Roadster.

Just my opinion guys - don’t come at me!
