There was a Tribute-bodied 250GT coupe on an episode of B&C I watched yesterday (apologies if it's an old episode but I hadn't seen it before).
Old Derek and his 'boys' were waxing lyrical about how good it was, how well built, how authentic, how it should sell for a fortune, etc, etc.

It sold for £23k, which is not a lot, is it? It did look OK but had Z3 seats and was a 1.9 litre car.

I really don't know what to think about values of rebodied zeds.

Mine is nowhere near finished but it's MOT'd and it runs. I'd value it at around 5K at the moment. That's the value in the insurance. When it's all painted I'd say maybe 10K. I have other work planned but, TBH, I'd never imagine its value to ever get anywhere near 20K. ever.

Me neither TBH. It does seem as though values are very dependent on which 'model' the car is supposed to be.
Of course many other factors will be involved aswell; not least finding that one person who really wants it and is prepared to pay.

I just think that £23k for a good 250 coupe that will have cost more to build and many free hours is cheap.

Agree. Ive seen that episode.

i think £23k is a bit low for a well built one. Issue its ultimately a 20 year old Z3 underneath and the while the body kits make them look fantastic there is a ceiling on value before you get into spending cash that could buy a lot more car elsewhere.

Personally I'm building my coupe for the fun and enjoyment of having it, and driving it. What its worth is irrelevant to me but it does help with the insurance valuations in case the worst should ever happen and i have to replace it...god forbid

I don't think people who buy (or, like us nutters, build) these type of cars are very interested that it's a 20-something year old Z3 underneath. As long as it gets down the road, the draw is the exclusivity, the look and the 'feeling'.

Whenever I take mine anywhere, I get many many people shouting, taking pictures, etc. All are smiling. It makes people happy seeing a car like this. I tell everyone it isn't real, but no-one cares. It looks 'the part', it's period, it's very different and it sounds good.
99.99% of people don't know what a 'real' 250GT coupe, or California, or BMW 507, or whatever....is, let alone ever seen one in the flesh. I know I haven't.

My neighbour opposite has a real F430 spyder. It is gorgeous and sounds amazing. But I would bet good money if he and I drove our cars through town together, mine would get more positive attention. He would get a lot of attention, but some would be negative.
