When I first said to my wife I wanted to change my car last year, she said two things. Not a sports car and not at the other end of the country! Well I got it wrong on both counts, after a few years of thought I had settled on a pre facelift 2.8 and the one I found was 250 miles away. Oh well can’t get it right all of the time. Though I will admit it did cause rather a lot of friction for a while. Anyway after several hours on the train we were picked up from the station at par in cornwall and taken to see my purchase which turned out to be everything I had hoped, a 1998 2.8 with 31000 miles and two owners, sat gleaming in the sun. My beloved was appalled when after a walk round the car with its arrow straight bodywork and immaculate interior I calmly handed over the cash without even starting it up. But 12 months on even she admits I did the right thing as it has been a joy and definitely no regrets.
likes, creamy smooth 6 pot with more than enough grunt for me and so much lovely torque, the interior with air con, electric hood, power seats and remote locking is as modern as I want. I love the relative simplicity and ease of maintenance, particularly the bolt on panels which have made rust proofing incredibly easy.
probably the only gripes are the quality of some of the interior plastics, and I would prefer longer gearing in 5th for cruising. But that apart it seems like for once I bought the right car and am looking forward to the next few years
