When opening my boot it feels like it has two positions, one right at the end of the gas struts travel and then it rests in another position a bit further open.

I am not sure if it is because the gas strut hole where the boot lid attaches has worn to oblong or if it is just how they are designed.

Thanks

Yeah time for new ones..not expensive but get the right ones as there are two different ratings..one for pre and one for post facelift even though they are same size

Ok good to know

I assume any ones from a breaker will be just as bad if they are known for it

I'll ring BMW on Monday and go from there

Thank you

They are cheap as chips on ebay try this :- 2X Rear Tailgate Boot Struts Gas Springs Lifters For Bmw Z3 E36 Cabrio 1995-2003 I put a pair on mine earlier this year and holding up fine, the last pair gave up the ghost as I sometimes carry an invalidity scooter on a boot rack.
