I kindof always took the 1st and 2nd gear change a bit slower than others. I have had comments from others that the Z4 was known for this sticky gear change in first and second. I've recently been given a link to a bimmerpost, which itself contains useful links with what looks like interesting information.

The finger is being pointed at a CDV (Clutch Delay Valve) (BMW call it a Lock Valve on Realoem).

The article is for the bigger engine but my 2.0i also has a lock valve on realoem.

Has anyone else had experience of this - can confirm / deny this is a cause and a cure ?

Can't say I have noticed it tbh but I did an oil change at 55k and just about to do it again at 70k so maybe worth trying the same.

got to agree with nodzed g/box oil change makes a great difference even if its not the cause of your problem you a slicker gear change at not much cost or trouble....as you are at it change the dif oil to ..ignore filled for life.
