Glad to join like minded people with a love of the Great and beautiful Z3. I have a 1999 2.0 litre straight six. Had it for two years one previous owner with 57000 miles . The car is immaculate and been well loved. A problem arose driving back from Silverstone. The ASC light came on and the rev counter stopped working. Car drove ok to get me home. Next morning it had rectified itself. But 5 miles driving problem repeats itself, when engine switched off after a period of time rectifies itself again , Any suggestions
 
First thing you need to do is scan it for codes see whats been set. You will need a code reader for BMW, and a 20pin to 16pin cable changer to plug it in to the round pacman diagnostic socket in the engine bay to read all modules. If you also have a 16pin obd2 socket under the steering wheel that only reads engine module. The Creator 410 would be a decent code reader, available on ebay or Amazon. Cable changer on ebay. Once you have codes post them back on here.
 
Thanks for prompt replies, I’ve got it booked in at local BMW trained engineers! Not main dealer £££££££££, he’s got the correct diagnostics. Will update when i know more.
