Hello all! I am pleased to be joining the community of Z3 enthusiasts as I have just purchased one for myself! I have been riding motorcycles for the past 15 years and my favorite bike being a 2004 BMW K1200RS. I put 40,000 miles on that motorcycle and it never skipped a beat, was super reliable and surprisingly easy to work on. I can say that this is where my love for older BMWs stems from. After those 15 years though, I have found myself no longer wanting go ride when it is below 60 degrees or above 90 degrees fahrenheit, and the extra steps of prepping myself to go in that sort of weather (plus my wife really didn't enjoy riding unless it was a perfect 72*F). So, in steps the Z3. I've had my eye on these little roadsters for probably 8 years or so, but it wouldn't make sense to have a bike AND a car AND my daily driver. I sold my bike back in April and have consistently kept watch for a Z3 to come around that wasn't super high mileage or absolutely clapped out. I am happy to announce that I am the new caretaker of a 1997 Z3 1.9, black with tan top/interior. 126K miles. This old girl is about to be 30 and needs some love. It's been maintained by the previous owner with records that show that, but is in need of lots of little bits to make her pretty again. Much like my old BMW bike, I plan to keep this car for a very long time. I won't do a full restoration but I want this car to last and be a good fair weather daily for me for many years to come.
Here is my current list of items I would like to do for the time being
Immediate items:
-door handle gaskets
-driver and passenger seat bushings
-antenna bung/gasket (maybe even a delete)
-new badges all around
-new belts
-fresh alignment (previous owner had new tie rods installed but whoever did the job didn't align the steering wheel)
Theres some other things I'm sure I can't remember at the moment. But yeah, I'm excited for this new journey in BMW ownership. Where do fellow Z3 owners like to shop for their parts? I've had good luck in the past on rock auto, hit and miss luck with ebay. Turner Motorsports are well known in racing and they have Z3 parts, but their website doesn't work well and can be pricey. I'm learning here, help me out! Thanks, all.
