Hi,
I have an intermittent water leak on my 2000 Z3 that I can't seem to track down.
I have had the car for just over a year now and although I have to keep it outside the previous owners always garaged it and only used it as a fair weather car so all the rubbers look in good condition (only 12K miles on the clock when I bought it
).
Earlier this year I drove it through torrential rain for more than an hour and didn't get any leaks at all.
I first noticed the leak a couple of months back when I got in the car one morning and saw drips of water on the passenger seat bolster.
When I looked further I also found water in the little cubby-hole on the side of the seat frame and could see water on the seat belt mounting.
In order to get water in those places it can only have come from the hood or the top of the window but both were dry.
I have tried sitting in the car while my wife hoses down the passenger door and window and only saw a tiny amount of water around the bottom of the door seal, nothing from the hood or window.
I now check the car regularly and have had the leak on a couple more occasions but there have been many other occasions where we have had heavy rain and no leak.
Looking at the position of the little cubby-hole I think this lines up with one of the joints in the rubber seal above the door where the frame folds when the hood is down but I didn't get any ingress from there when the window was hosed down.
As winter is approaching I will be putting the hard top on soon and that should hopefully keep the rain out but it would be good to solve the problem.
Anyone have any suggestions ?
